Lifting the mood away from the dark depths of the rum mojito is the crisp, lemon verbena of Smuggler’s Gin.  The scots lovage peeking through to remind you of those extra special botanicals and the clean, crisp taste that marries so well with the mint.  The delicate sweetness of the strawberries make it very easy to drink!

The mojito is a cocktail bar favourite.  Well known, hard to mess up and always pretty good to drink.  How to improve on that?

Enter the Strawberry Smash.

INGREDIENTS
  • 50ML Smuggler’s Gin
  • 4-5 Strawberries
  • Fresh Mint Leaves
  • ½ Lemon (squeezed)
  • Tonic of your choice (keep it light and simple to let the citrus notes of the gin and the strawberry flavour shine through).
  • *Sugar to taste (no more than ½ a teaspoon per glass)
Method
In a shaker (check out our shaker set if you don’t have one yet!) add the crushed ice (put some cubes in a plastic bag and smash with a rolling pin), 3-4 sliced strawberries and 5 healthy mint leaves. Stir this together, mashing the strawberries and mint leaves slightly to release the flavours. Add in the gin, fresh lemon and sugar to taste (I prefer mine less sweet so depend on the sugar from the strawberries instead of adding sugar). Shake this up, or stir with a fork if making in a glass, and either pour over ice or add tonic directly to the glass, giving one final stir to mix it all together. Add the finishing touches of beautiful strawberry slices and a few fresh mint leaves, and maybe a thin slice of lemon or two.
